Grant Updates - August 23, 2017

There are quite a few grant opportunities that have recently received Board approval, and you can review the most up-to-date list of approved grants on the Grants Office intranet sitein our Canvas Course, and on the Grants Office Google site. Some of the recent opportunities include Whole Kids Foundation Garden grants, United Arts Council's Arts in Education grants, and the National Dairy Council's Fuel Up to Play 60 grant. When considering what grants are available and looking for options that fit for your class, you might want to start your search by checking out our list of Board approved grants.

Upcoming Deadlines
Here are a few good grant opportunities that will be closing soon:
Lowe's Toolbox for Education  grants provide up to $5,000 for school improvement projects. The deadline for this grant is September 29, or whenever they receive 1500 applications, so apply early!
Wake Electric's Bright Ideas and Classroom Technology grants offer up to $3,000 for innovative classroom projects and classroom technology respectively. September 13 is the deadline for these grants.
Target Field Trip grant offers $700 for learning outside the classroom. This opportunity is open until October 1.

About Donors Choose
Donors Choose is a very popular grant, and the only online grant opportunity that is Board approved. Donors Choose is an amazing resource as long as everyone understands how it works. Here are a few tips to consider when applying to Donors Choose:
1. Everything posted is public. Students, parents, and other members of our community can, and hopefully will access what's posted. Ask yourself, does the project posting reflect the highest degree of respect for the students, families, and the broader school community?
2. Please be careful not to disclose any information that might reveal the identity of a student. Photos should not include images of students, even if the students pictured have parental permission. Teachers may use general pictures of their classroom so long as the image does not include any materials which might personally identify or include students. These guidelines apply to profile images, project postings, and thank you packages.
3. WCPSS and its schools are committed to providing for the educational needs of students. Grants can help supply for wants, enriching classrooms. Applicants should talk with their principal about what will be requested through the grant.

If you have any questions, don't hesitate to get in touch with the grants office (grants@wcpss.net).
Happy grant writing!
